These outcomes are linked to General Education Learning Outcomes 3, 4, and 5 are listed at the end of this syllabus.

               The student will

1. Be able to differentiate algebraic, trigonometric, logarithmic, and exponential functions. (4)

2. Be able to use apply differentiation in optimization problems and curve sketching. (3, 4, 5)

3. Be able to integrate functions involving algebraic, trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic forms and relate this to differentiation through the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. (4)

4. Be able to apply the integral to find areas and volumes.  (3, 4, 5)

5. See how these ideas can be applied to a variety of fields including but not limited to science, economics, and other areas of mathematics. (3, 5)

6.  Cultivate the habit for rigorous mathematical thought. (11)

7.  Be able to proceed to more advanced courses in mathematics. (11)

VII.          Evaluation-Homework, 4 - Tests, Homework and Final Exam – All Proctored.  Location of the exams will be determined depending on student location. They generally will be proctored in Swainsboro, Statesboro, or Augusta campuses. You will have to bring proof of identification with you in order to take any proctored exams.   If a student is not able to go to one of the main campuses, he/she should contact the instructor (Dr. Brown).  It will be possible to have the proctoring accomplished using ProctureU, an independent company that the student will have to register with and pay their fee which will run about $20.00 per test depending on the length of the test.  Anyone may use ProctorU if desired,  If you are at higher risk for COVID-19 you should consider taking tests on ProctorU.         See link on Alternative Education solutions during COVID-19.  You need to register with ProctorU at https://www.proctoru.com/  Test your camera, Wi-Fi, and overall setup with ProctorU.

VIII.        Grading: Grades will be based on the following: 1) Homework: (via MyMathLab) 100 points. 2) 4 Tests: each Test counts 100 points. 3) Final Exam: 100 points The average of the 4 tests plus the homework will count 70% of the final grade, and the comprehensive final examination will count 30% of the grade.
Grading formula:  Final Grade = (.7* Test Average + .3* Exam)

A 90-100%, B 80-89%, C 70-79%, D 60-69%, F 0-59%, W (withdrawal by mid-term

One additional grading policy involves allowing the grade to be determined by the final exam grade only.  Generally, a student should attempt to do well throughout the semester and not depend on pulling his/her grade up on the final exam.  However, occasionally, this policy has helped students who were able to gain a substantial understanding of the course material and demonstrate their proficiency on the final exam. Student homework is graded automatically by MyMathLab. Tests and Final exam grades are reported within 48 hours or sooner in D2L.  Midterm Grades and course averages are provided going into the final in D2L.

IX.            Attendance Policy: Students are expected to participate in the class by reading emails and announcements daily. Online learning requires the learner to take more responsibility in the class. A student must verify their attendance when asked in the class or they may be dropped from the class. Do not wait until the last minute to do the work in the class.  Watch all videos as shown on the schedule and work all homework according to the schedule.

X.              Make-up Policy: A student who has advanced permission from the instructor to miss a test for a legitimate reason (documented cases of illness, death in the family or other documented reasons deemed appropriate by the instructor)  may at the instructor’s discretion make the test up.

XI.            Plagiarism & Academic Dishonesty: http://www.ega.edu/policy/04-academic-honesty-policy.pdf

XII.          ADA Statement: If any student has special needs because of learning disabilities or other disabilities, the student should provide the proper documentation and discuss this problem with the instructor in the privacy of their office. EGC statement can be found at: http://www.ega.edu/offices/student_affairs/counseling_and_disability_services

XIII.        Course Withdrawal Policy Statement: Withdrawal Date:  The last day to withdraw from classes without academic penalty is 03/3/2021.   Students are responsible for their own academic progress. Decisions regarding withdrawal from courses should only be made after consultation with an academic advisor. Before withdrawing from a course, students should meet with a Financial Aid representative to discuss their personal financial aid situation. More information regarding withdrawal from courses can be found in the EGC catalog at http://www.ega.edu/offices/student_affairs/registrars_office/catalogs

XIV.        Campus Emergency Policy:

a. In the event the fire alarm is sounded, everyone must evacuate the

building at once and in a calm and orderly fashion, using the nearest exit. In the event of a severe weather warning everyone must proceed immediately to the nearest designated shelter area which are marked by a small tornado symbol. All severe weather shelter locations are posted on the EGSC website. Each student should, on the first day of class, determine the location of the nearest exit and the nearest designated shelter area for each of his or her classrooms. If you have difficulties locating either ask your instructor to assist you.

b. The Connect-ED system is a communication service that enables East Georgia State College administrators and security personnel to quickly contact all East Georgia State College students, faculty and staff with personalized voice and text messages that contain emergency-related campus information (e.g., campus closing, campus threat, health scare, etc.) With Connect-ED, East Georgia State College students can be reached and provided with vital instructions anywhere, anytime, through their cell phones, home phones, e-mail, TTY/TDD receiving devices, or other text-receiving devices. (http://www.ega.edu/student_life/connected)

c. EGSCS students should make themselves familiar with Georgia Southern University’s Emergency Response Plan http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/ess/Emergency%20Response %20Plan.pdf

In the event of an emergency, EGSCS students should follow the instructions of EGSCS faculty and staff members and GSU campus officials.

XV.          Additional Course Requirements: Calculator Policy:  The TI-83/84 graphing calculator is required.
